Case Study

KPBS, San Diego, CA

KPBS has had the EstateGiving Web pages planned giving content linked to its web site since late 2004. Planned Giving Director, Helen Cheng, recently received a letter from a listener that KPBS did not know of who enclosed a copy of his will for their records. KPBS is named as a beneficiary and when Helen called the donor to express her thanks, the gentleman explained to Helen that he had found the KPBS information on the web when he was looking for information as he wrote his will.

Helen tells MajorGiving.com that often as she talks to potential donors, they will follow along with her on the web site, making comments about the planned giving information and reading along with her as she discusses various aspects of planned giving. Having the content in front of them as they talk on the phone is very helpful in the discussion and understanding of key points. In addition, Helen was recently discussing KPBS and their planned giving program with a local estate planning attorney who said that one of the most important things that a planned giving site can have is the organization legal name and tax identification number. “When someone tells you what is important to them, it's a good feeling to know that you have already taken care of it,” notes Helen.
